Dr. Weigel specializes in refractive surgery including LASIK and PRK along with modern refractive cataract surgery. He has performed thousands of surgeries and conducted numerous educational seminars for patients and local optometrists alike.
Dr. Weigel utilizes and embraces technology, one of the Core Values at New Vision Laser Center, especially in the surgical arena. For example, he has been trained in all-laser LASIK from its implementation years ago. This technique uses a femto second laser to create the truly customizable corneal flaps—he was even the first in Pennsylvania to use the LenSx Laser by Alcon to create a flap! In addition, he uses Wavefront technology to perform Custom LASIK surgery for patients giving them the most accurate outcomes!
In cataract surgery, Dr. Weigel uses the most up to date cataract machine for regular traditional surgery and the LenSx for ReLACS or Refractive Laser Assisted Cataract surgery. This laser cataract surgery allows for precise surgery like never before. This laser along with the Premium lens implants provides patients with the safety and results they expect from New Vision Laser Center. Premium lenses such as the Alcon PanOptix and the Johnson & Johnson Symfony give excellent visual quality!
Dr. Weigel is a Fellow and member of the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology. He is Board Certified by the AOBOO and has successfully re-certified by passing a rigorous test. He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
Dr. Weigel earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996. He completed his internship and ophthalmology residency at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he was named Chief Resident. He also received the Senior Ophthalmic Resident Paper Award by the American Osteopathic Board of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology.
